The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois Monthly Vigil for Peace and Justice will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Illinois Ave. and Main Street in Carbondale.
This vigil will help kick off 11 Days for Peace, February 1 to 11, organized by Nonviolent Carbondale. Multiple events will help illuminate the many ways our community works to build connections and overcome divisions. Together we strive to create a just, non-violent, inclusive society, to reverse the glorification and unquestioned use of force, whether in local policing or military interventions abroad, and to work in concert to address the climate crisis that threatens all. https://www.nonviolentcarbondale.org/
In his “Beyond Vietnam” speech, Dr. King declared: “A nation that continues year after year to spend more on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
Appropriate signs will be provided, but all are invited to bring their own. The Peace Coalition Monthly Meeting will follow the Vigil at Cristaudo’s Café and Bakery. All are invited to attend.
