The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, October 3, 2020, noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
“As genocide, climate change, poverty, mass incarceration, and other acts of destruction converge into the largest social, political and ecological crisis humanity has ever faced, we must ask ourselves these essential questions: what will it take to end war? What will it take to end the violence and suffering in our world?” (from CODEPINK)
Growing local peace economies is a revolution of values and a revolution of practices. Examples include the Carbondale Spring Food Autonomy Initiative and Illinois groups working on the Clean Energy Jobs Act, https://ilcleanjobs.org/. It is time to look around and become accomplices in planting and nurturing the seeds of hope, peace and justice. CODEPINK offers ways of developing local peace economies at https://www.codepink.org/peaceeconomy.
The event will follow masking and physical distancing guidelines. Appropriate signs will be provided, but all are invited to bring their own. The monthly meeting will follow, please bring a chair and a drink for a physically distanced meeting in the shade.
